I woke up at 6am to a massive thunder storm right over head. I decided to wait a little bit before starting to walk. Soon the storm passed and for several hours it was beautiful. This started the last 100 kilometers to Santiago. There were several noticeable differences from the previous days. First is now the arrows are everywhere. There are kilometer markers about every two hundred meters which is slightly annoying. Worst of all is the massive influx of “tourist pilgrims”. Suddenly it is as if the peace of the Camino is broken by the massive herds of pilgrims. Hardly any of them respond when told ” buen Camino”. After two hours I stopped at a cafe. Just in time for round two of thunder and massive rain. Was so happy to have a poncho. Listening to the new pilgrims was kind of funny. One lady told her group,”well it was a good experience but this is a bit much”. After the rain lightened up a bit I continued walking. Needless to say my feet were soon soaked through. I walked a few more hours like this until I found an albergue and decided to call it a day.
One benefit was the next day the Camino was so peaceful!
No pictures during the rain…it was just too wet!
