Questions in the Dark

Leaving the village before dawn I began walking. It was not long before I came upon a group of about 15 pilgrims all grouped up in the middle of the Camino. A girl asked in a sheepish voice “Have you seen the concha?”  They were all unsure of which way to proceed. The was a small road to the left but clearly backtracking into the country. I told her I haven’t seen the concha. Even though it was still dark I was sure I was on the Camino. The markings are usually where there is a choice to make.  They all stayed there conferring as I moved forward. I had no question about being on the right way until just a bit further as they continued to be stationary.

So when you see everyone doing some thing do you do what everyone else is doing or do you walk your own path in confidence?  I realized I never would have had a doubt until I saw so many thinking the way was wrong.  A few minutes later I saw a faded yellow arrow on the irrigation pipe and it confirmed I was on the correct path.

Have the courage to go the way you know is right.
